The department of science, recreation and ecological education is to
fulfill the following tasks: coordination of the scientific researches
carried out by the outside investigatory institutions; compiling and
analysis of findings; ecological monitoring of natural ecosystems; development
of recommendations on conservation and limited use of natural ecosystems;
tourism development in the territory of the park; ecological education
of the local population and visitors.
Ovdin E.D., the head of the department, has a great experience of work
in the National Park. The staff of the department includes an ichthyologist,
an ornithologist, a biologist and Methodists on ecological education.
Three specialists of the department attend University Extension and
work at their thesis.
The major part of scientific researches in the territory of the National
Park is carried out by the outside scientific institutions. It is determined
by the fact, that for 80 years in the territory neighboring to the Zabaikalsky
National Park there have been carried out scientific researches by the
Barguzinsky Reserve (zapovednik), having a great amount of information
about the natural ecosystems of the
region. It's not rational to duplicate their work. Apart from this,
12 various Institutions of Scientific Research carry out investigatory
work on manifold directions in the territory of the National Park.
In this sphere the Zabaikalsky National Park works side by side with
the Irkutsky Institute of Geography (SDRAS), the Buryat State Institute
of Biology (SDRAS), the Buryat State University, The Baikal Limnological
Institute, The Institute of Biology (Irkutsk), the Irkutsk State University,
the Irkutsk Academy of Agriculture, the Baikal Institute of Nature Use,
the Baikal Ecological Museum, the Center of the East-Siberian Ichthyologic
Investigatory Institution and others.
These institutions fulfill their activity in accordance with the ratified
plans and programs of scientific research. In order to realize necessary
for the park works economic contracts are concluded.
Prevention of negative anthropogenic effect on the nature of the park,
compiling of information concerning the state of natural ecosystems,
putting into practice the foremost achievements of science are considered
to be the first-rate lines of scientific research.
